NCPS Celebrates Local Winners of National Essay Contest

Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) announces the recognition of its students by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in the prestigious George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest. The contest, aimed at high school students in grades 9 through 12, encourages the exploration of the American Revolution through academic research and writing. Maddie Hart, a junior at Nash Central High School, was honored as the chapter winner by the Halifax Resolves Chapter for her exceptional essay, "Activist Without Acclaim," which delves into Joseph Warren's significant yet often overlooked contributions to the American Revolution. Hart received a neck ribbon, a certificate, and a monetary award for her distinguished work.

Furthermore, two Nash Central High School students, Josh Eason and Christian Gurganus, were recognized with Honorable Mention for their insightful essays on "Marquis de Lafayette: The Hero of Two Worlds" and "The Culper Spy Ring," respectively. They were awarded certificates in a ceremony attended by members of the school's faculty and representatives from the Halifax Resolves Chapter, including past president Geoff Pittard. These awards highlight the dedication of Nash County Public Schools' students to academic excellence and their deep engagement with the historical narratives that shape our nation. Nash County Public Schools congratulates Maddie Hart, Josh Eason, and Christian Gurganus for their achievements and expresses gratitude to the teachers and staff who continue to inspire and support student success in all scholarly pursuits.
