NCHS Senior Awarded Prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship

Rocky Mount, NC – Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) announces Jon Ayden Horne, a senior at Nash Central High School (NCHS), as the recipient of the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship for his upcoming studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) in fall 2024. This marks the first time a NCHS student has achieved this honor, recognizing Horne's leadership, character, academic excellence, and physical vigor, which align with the Morehead-Cain Foundation's values. 

Reflecting on his achievement, Horne emphasizes the role of his family, goals, and faith in guiding him through the application process, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and the support system that has backed him, particularly after sharing the news with his teammates in a moment filled with joy. His involvement in sports, community service, and academic excellence, coupled with his leadership roles, highlights his embodiment of the scholarship's ideals. 

With plans to pursue a Biology major on a premedical track at UNC-CH, Horne aims to serve rural communities as an anesthesiologist, attributing his success and motivation to his faith. He advises future scholarship aspirants to stay driven, actively engage in their communities, and remain authentic.
