Nash Central High School Dance Department Presents DanCentral Fall Concert

 

 

Nashville, N.C. – The Dance Department at Nash Central High School (NCHS) is set to showcase its DanCentral Fall Concert on Nov. 16-17 at Rocky Mount's Imperial Centre at 6 p.m., the performances are a unique presence in the county's educational landscape. 

 

Founded in 2002, the department distinguishes itself as the sole provider of dance education within the Nash County Public Schools (NCPS). Under the guidance of Dance Teacher and Team Director Kelly Scott, the program has played an integral role in nurturing students' artistic growth. This year's concert, a significant milestone marking the department's 22nd appearance at the Imperial Centre since Spring 2012 and Scott's 33rd with NCHS.

 

“This semester's concert encompasses all that DanCentral is about; dance is meant for everyone, and this production has something for everyone,” said Scott. The concert promises a collection of 12 dance pieces. The program features three works choreographed by students, eight pieces choreographed by Scott, and the final piece is a work set on the students' National Honors Society for Dance Arts chapter in collaboration with the online digital studio CLI. In which the dancers learned the work created for performance by choreographer Rachel Markarian.

 

Superintendent Dr. Steven Ellis highlighted that for more than 20 years, the Dance Department at Nash Central High School has been a key component of Nash County Public Schools' educational journey. "This program empowers students with skills that extend beyond traditional academic realms. It signifies NCPS's focus on all-encompassing student development, demonstrating our commitment to fostering diverse abilities and passions within our educational framework,” said Ellis.

 

Scott emphasized the range of dance styles to expect at this concert, “From high-energy jazz to meaningful lyrical and fun hip-hop pieces to engaging student choreography; we hope that everyone in the audience will leave with a new appreciation of what it means to dance in schools,” said Scott.
